Bihu Celebration in April

The beautiful State of Assam celebrates three Bihu festivals in a year namely Rongali Bihu, Magh Bihu and Kati Bihu marking the distinctive phases in the farming calendar. Of the three Bihu festivals, Rongali Bihu is celebrated with the greatest excitement as it marks the arrival of spring – the agricultural season. Rongali Bihu marks the agricultural New Year at the advent of seeding time and is celebrated as a Festival of Merriment. To celebrate the joyous Rongali Bihu festival, people of Assam wear new colourful clothes, visit friends and relatives and distribute sweets as they greet each other a Happy Bihu. Marking the occasion, young boys and girls in villages don traditional attire and sing and dance Bihu songs accompanied by orchestra of dhol, pepa and gagana. Bihu fairs are arranged at several places where people participate in games and other fun filled activities.

We at Shemrock kavya celebrated Rongali Bihu with a lot of fan fair. Our Kids came dressed in traditional attire complete with dhol and gamocha. It was a whole new experience for them to understand the essence of the festival. They danced to Bihu songs and posed for the shutterbug.
